Community Garden (old)

The BCA has long been considered the Heart of Bowness, and we’re making it official by expanding into the outdoors. THE HEART OF BOWNESS will be a park space designed to celebrate the energy and passion of all Bownesians. With gardening space, a mixed-use sports court, a public art space, seating, and winter ice activities, this dream park will have a little something for everyone in our community.

Here’s the fun part: we need YOU to help us bring THE HEART OF BOWNESS to life! To complete your park, we need to raise $300,000 – and in a neighbourhood with such a strong spirit of giving, we know this goal can be reached by year’s end! We also need volunteers for the Fundraising, Gardening and Outdoor Ice Committees!

To contribute to THE HEART OF BOWNESS, visit: mybowness.com/donate

To join one of our Committees, email: volunteer@mybowness.com

We invite you to follow along (and help us spread the word by using #HeartOfBowness) as construction gets underway. And we can’t wait to celebrate our unique community with you at THE HEART OF BOWNESS!

FAQS

The Garden Committee oversees the general operation of the community garden location at the Bowness Community Association. The Committee will govern and manage the garden and its members, including operation and maintenance of the physical garden space and any related infrastructure. Those who join self-assign to one or more of the following areas based on interest and skills: Finance & Fundraising Area, Communications & Outreach Area, Maintenance & Safety Area, Events & Education Area, Membership Area. As the garden is not built yet, much of the work currently involves helping with planning its build, getting it financed, and helping build out policies and procedures - with roles expanding and evolving as the garden progresses.

Meetings take place every two weeks beginning January 16, 2023, but may be adjusted as needed. Meetings are from 7-8pm. The time commitment is approximately 3-4 hours per month.

Email garden@mybowness.com to learn more about Joining. When ready, you may organize with the Garden Committee to attend the next meeting.
