Join us for a special workshop on this National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. Led by local artist, James Ziegler, and guided by the wisdom of Indigenous Elder, Harley Crowshoe, we will honour this day through ceremony, learning, art, healing and connection.
The Tall Feathers Workshop involves the cooperative construction of tall paper feathers, seven feet high, celebrating individuals from all backgrounds, honouring and supporting their journeys, and opening up a path for conversation. Working in small groups, folks will choose the colours and decorative elements, and assemble the paper feathers, with the opportunity to mark the feathers with symbols or words, like private messages or words of intention.
The workshop will begin with a ceremony and prayer by Elder Harley Crowshoe, and will culminate with a group installation of the feathers in the BCA green space. This will happen in tandem with the raising of two steel feather sculptures where the entrance to the new community garden meets the the tiny forest healing garden coming in 2024.

This workshop has been made possible with support from the Community Hubs Initiative: A partnership between The City of Calgary and United Way of Calgary and Area with Rotary as a founding partner.
For those not able to participate in the full workshop, you are still welcome to join on Sep. 30 in creating Dream Spinners using twine, wood blocks, and paper. After writing down your wishes and dreams, the Dream Spinners are then launched onto a sculpture in a gesture of sending your intentions and aspirations to the sky.
