July 13 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm MDT

2024 Socials 2024 07 02T153354.069
Join local artist and entrepreneur Melba Seto to paint ceramic tiles and help create an interconnected pathway for the Bowness Community Garden!
Ages 8 and up (children need an adult with them)
If you are interested in attending this program but are unable to attend one or more workshop dates, please email Abby at communityhub@mybowness.com. All questions about this program can also be directed to that address.

Blank ceramic tiles will be made by Melba Seto for residents of Bowness to participate in painting. The tiles will be used to create a path in the community garden. Each tile will have a two lines drawn through to symbolize the connection in this rich community and each tile will be able to be connected through these lines. A palette of greens, blues, yellows, and oranges will be used to ensure consistency and artistic integrity in the design. The first two days will be used to paint the tiles and the third day to install the piece! This program is suitable for participants ages 8+. Participants under the age of 16 must attend with an adult. Refreshments will be provided and free childminding is available upon request.

At the first session, Saturday, July 13, we will talk about the process of building pathways and connectivity through Bowness and residents will get to paint a tile using mindfulness and personal creativity to represent what being connected in Bowness means to them.
At the second session, Saturday, July 20, guests will paint the 2 lines on each tile to represent how we are connected. Each guest will have an opportunity to share a story about their connections and how they have brought them closer to Bowness and their neighbours.
At the third session, Saturday, July 27, will be installing the pieces into a pathway through the community garden, building the path to connect the Pieces of Bowness.
About the Artist:
Melba Seto began pottery in 2010 and within her first year spent over 1000hrs learning the craft. She began to pursue a dream becoming a professional potter and instructor. Due to unfortunate circumstances her dream to open a studio and continue her passion for teaching others was put on the back burner each time the dream got close to being actualized. After launching Bowness Soapworks in 2020 and staring to build her dream again to open the pottery studio, it was finally made possible in 2023. These limited pieces not only symbolize a long painful journey of chasing your dreams, but the tenacity and determination of a human can render new beginnings. The pieces are imperfect as is the process to get to this point. From Melba’s hands to your home- may the imperfections remind you that dreams though sometimes may take a turn- are always possible if you keep trying. With over 25 years of teaching experience her workshops are designed for all levels and abilities and highly enjoyed from guests all over the world.
