Community Appreciation Days

Construction has brought ongoing challenges to the community, and the Bearspaw South Feeder Main project team knows that many residents, especially those along 34 Avenue N.W., have felt the effects every day. While construction impacts will continue, the project team wants to recognize and thank you for your continued patience and support.

During the week of August 24, the team is hosting Community Appreciation Days. Come out and enjoy activities for children, families, and neighbours of all ages, and come together to recognize the strength and spirit of this community.

Bearspaw South Feeder Main replacement project

About the Project

The City of Calgary is urgently replacing the Bearspaw South Feeder Main (BSFM) due to the critical condition of the current pipe and its importance to Calgary’s drinking water system.

The project will add a new parallel steel pipe alongside the existing feeder main. Once complete, the new pipe will gradually take over service from the current line, helping improve system reliability and reduce the risk of future feeder main failures.

Construction of the replacement pipe is anticipated to be completed by December 2026.

Residents can learn more about the overall project through the City of Calgary project page:

Phase B Construction (Bowness)

Phase B construction began on May 11, 2026 and is expected to continue through November 2026.

This phase includes installation of the new replacement pipe from 73 Street N.W. to 89 Street N.W., connecting to the existing steel pipe leading to the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant.

Work began with tie-in construction at:

  • 77 Street N.W. (started May 11)
  • 83 Street N.W. (starting May 25)

Feeder main installation along 34 Avenue N.W. is expected to begin in June 2026.

Construction is being completed using an open-cut approach, allowing crews to work more efficiently and shorten the overall project timeline. Multiple crews will be active at the same time, generally working east to west along 34 Avenue N.W.

Each construction section is expected to take approximately 10–12 weeks to complete.
